Implant treatment is the most successful method used to replace missing teeth in patients’ jaws. However, in some patients, the area remains empty for a long time after tooth loss, or there is melting of the jawbone due to age. The Box technique is a treatment method that allows implants to be placed in patients with osteoporosis in the jawbone. With the Box technique, which is one of the applications of jaw surgery, the regeneration of dissolved bones is ensured in terms of both width and thickness. In the Box technique, a small box is created by building a wall with a self-destructive material in the melted part of the jawbone. The top of the box, which is filled with human, animal, or synthetic bone powder, is covered with gums. Depending on the patient and the size of the fused area in the jaw, approximately 4-6 months are needed for bone formation.
When bone formation occurs after the Box technique, implants are placed in the jaw with a second surgical intervention. Approximately 2-3 months are then needed for the dentures to be placed on the implants. The treatment is completed with the insertion of the dentures. In addition to implant treatment, the Box technique is also applied to perform various aesthetic treatments, especially in the front jaw. At Elit Istanbul Medical Center’s Oral and Dental Health Department, the Box technique, which focuses on patient satisfaction, is successfully applied.
