Teeth Straightening Without Wires
“Invisalign,” the latest technology in orthodontic treatment for the correction of crooked teeth, offers patients the opportunity for orthodontic treatment without wires. Invisalign allows teeth to be straightened with transparent aligners made to fit the patient’s teeth.
Invisalign (Wireless Orthodontics) convinces those who want to receive orthodontic treatment to correct crooked teeth but do not want to use braces. Since the transparent aligners used in this treatment are not noticeable from the outside, it is not evident that orthodontic treatment is being performed. Unlike traditional orthodontic treatment, the most important advantages of Invisalign treatment are the absence of metal bands, brackets, or wires that can hold food residues and bacterial plaque.
Invisalign can be applied to people of all age groups who can receive orthodontic treatment. For children, the requirement is to reach approximately 13-14 years of age, although it depends on the jaw structure and tooth eruption. Moderate and mild dental crowding can be treated with Invisalign. However, whether the patient is suitable for Invisalign treatment is determined by the specialist doctor.
When it is decided to correct crooked teeth with Invisalign technology, the doctor who will perform the treatment takes measurements from the patient’s mouth, and the measurements taken are transferred to the computer environment with the 3D scanning method called the CAD-CAM system. In the next step, the teeth transferred to the virtual environment are moved with a computer simulation and transparent plaques are prepared according to each 0.05 mm movement. The prepared plaques are used respectively, under the supervision of a doctor, taking into account the improvement in the teeth. The result of the treatment is also shown to the patient in three dimensions.
Invisalign aligners should be cleaned with a toothbrush under warm water every morning and evening. To get successful results from Invisalign treatment, transparent aligners must be kept in the mouth for approximately 20 hours a day. Patients should use the aligners, which they can remove while eating and brushing their teeth, day and night, including bedtime. Regular check-ups also affect the success of the treatment.
It is important to treat any cavities that may cause problems within a year before starting Invisalign treatment. Wisdom teeth that are expected to cause problems during treatment are also removed before treatment. Invisalign treatment is applied by certified specialist doctors trained in this field at Elit Istanbul Medical Center Oral and Dental Health Department.
